History Timeline

1959 – Commerce Bank & Trust opens for business in Topeka, Kansas.
1960s – Innovative from the beginning, first in the region to offer automated checking a significant technological advance.
1976 – First ATM is installed in the region.
1988 – Opens the first grocery store banking branch in the state of Kansas.
1995 – Named “Best Bank in Kansas” by Money Magazine. The award was based on product innovation and unsurpassed customer convenience.
1997 – Expansion efforts begin with branches outside the trade area.
2004 – Assets grow to more than $1 billion
2007 – With more than 23 branches in northeast Kansas Commerce Bank & Trust announces regional expansion plans. In order to accomplish this, the brand name changes from Commerce Bank & Trust to CoreFirst Bank & Trust.
2008 – Offering exceptional customer service and convenience CoreFirst Bank & Trust opens its first expansion branches. Two in the Kansas City area and a third in Englewood, Colorado.

CoreFirst Bank & Trust was founded in Topeka, KS in 1959 as Commerce Bank & Trust. Over the next five decades, Commerce built an impressive list of customer services “firsts” – all based upon the core philosophy or providing outstanding banking convenience. These included offering the regions first 24-hour ATMs, first grocery store branches, first extended and weekend hours, and a host of technological innovations, all leading to exemplary customer satisfaction and retention. The bank grew to be the largest in the area and in 1995 was nationally recognized as the “Best Bank in Kansas” by Money Magazine.

Over the years, loyal customers in nearby communities throughout the region wanted Commerce’s exceptional service. Demand grew for further geographic expansion. However, growth was stymied because another area bank was already using the “Commerce” name. To continue growing to meet customer needs, and “expansion identity” would be needed. Thus, in 2007 the CoreFirst Bank & Trust band was born.
