New Year’s Resolutions are notoriously difficult to stick with long-term. But with just a few minor changes to your strategy and your mindset, you can set yourself up for success!

Try out a few of these pointers to help you reach your goals for 2024:

  1. Dream big… but be realistic. Making a sudden, drastic lifestyle change is incredibly difficult. Instead, try to focus on smaller, attainable goals throughout that year that allow for continuous improvement.
  2. Make a plan and write it down. By writing out a detailed plan for HOW you will accomplish your resolution, you become more prepared for the journey ahead. When writing your plan, think about the challenges you may face on your journey – and how you’ll overcome them.

  3. Avoid vague resolutions. When a goal is too broad or vague, it’s hard to know where to start. Instead of setting a resolution to “be healthier,” try for something specific and measurable – like exercising at least three times a week.

  4. Get a buddy. Find a friend or coworker with the same goal as you and help hold each other accountable.

  5. Learn from past mistakes. Instead of being discouraged by failed resolutions from years past, learn from them! Take some time to reevaluate. What worked last time? What didn’t? How can you adjust to set yourself up for success?

  6. Change your vocabulary. The power of positive language goes a long way! Stop saying “I wish” or “I want” to complete a goal – say “I am going to” or “I will.” Changing your vocabulary can help you take your goals more seriously and keep you on track.

  7. Go easy on yourself. Unlearning a bad habit or taking on a new lifestyle takes time. Celebrate the small victories – and don’t get discouraged when you slip up!
