Thanksgiving Dinner On A Budget

When grocery prices are sky high, the Thanksgiving menu may blow your weekly grocery budget. With a few simple changes, you might be surprised at how much you can save at the grocery store.

  1. Go ahead and buy that big 25-pound turkey because they are on sale. At most stores, the butcher can cut it in half for you. Cook half for Thanksgiving and put the other half in the freezer for the next holiday.
  2. You don’t have to have turkey if the cost will break the bank. Try a less expensive meat like chicken or pork loin.
  3. Stay away from buying the expensive frozen pies and make your own, even if you have to buy the pre-made crust.
  4. Relish trays can really add up! Instead of 10 different items, stick to just 4 items that are low-cost like baby carrots and celery.
  5.  Instead of fresh herbs, use the dry ones, they’re more economical.
  6. Paper products make things easier but go ahead and use the fine china to avoid this added expense.
  7. When it comes to decorating your Thanksgiving table, look to nature and utilize leaves, pinecones, cedar boughs even hedge apples or gala apples for a beautiful, natural look.
